Astute high school teachers noticed my creative tendencies and encouraged me to work on the school newspaper and yearbook. This experience led me to study commercial art in college. While pursuing my commercial art degree, I took several painting classes. I graduated from Athens State University in Athens, Alabama, with a major in art and a minor in computer science. After college, I worked in Huntsville, Alabama, as a technical illustrator, publications manager, animator, and web designer. During this time, I remembered how much I enjoyed the painting classes and began painting for fun.
I use an oil painting technique that involves slowly building up layers of semi-transparent paint to create realistic images. Photography is a major influence, with ideas for paintings often coming from photos I gather of family, friends, and outdoor activities. My goal is to enjoy describing the beauty of the Tennessee Valley with paint and brushes.
